Have you ever done a Tarot reading for yourself, only to forget 10 mins later what cards came up and what the message of the reading was?
I get it. We have all been there. I was doing readings for myself all the time, but would completely forget the significance of each reading, sometimes only a few minutes after completing it.
What’s more, I would sometimes see vague patterns that were happening in my readings (this could be the same card or theme continually surfacing); however, it was hard to pinpoint what it was trying to communicate to me.
How Journaling Changed My Tarot Readings
All of this changed when I started recording my readings by using a dedicated journal to reflect on them.
After doing a reading, I would write down the spread, the cards, significant card pairings and my general interpretation.
By doing this, I was able to keep track of what cards were continually coming up, what themes were arising, whether my reading consisted of a particular suit or court card and the significance of that.
I was able to link the themes and characters of my readings to real-life events that were happening in my life or the people in it.
However, something even more interesting happened for me.
Why Journaling Was a Game Changer for My Tarot Readings
My understanding of how Tarot works completely changed due to journaling my readings.
When a big event happened in my life, I was able to see how my readings had indicated that something like that might happen.
I would look back through my journal to see what the cards had shown me, and this helped me to understand exactly how Tarot communicates major events that are about to happen in your life.
I would understand how Tarot shows:
- Situations/events that are coming.
- What exactly is happening in the here and now.
- What is leaving.
The Tarot Journal was key in helping me to see certain nuances within my readings that I would have completely missed before. The Tarot Journal includes Tarot Card Meanings, Spread Guides and Journaling Pages. Get The Tarot Journal below.
I was also able to link new meanings to certain cards, which might not be necessarily obvious.
For example, The Empress card traditionally represents the divine feminine, motherhood and fertility. However, I notice this card would usually come up in readings when I was struggling and having a difficult time in life. It’s as if the Divine was saying to me, “You are a queen and don’t forget it!”
Learn Tarot Card Meanings Easily
Journaling also helped me to learn the traditional meanings of the cards.
When I did readings in the past, I would briefly look at the cards and get a sense for what the reading was communicating, but when I started journaling, I would really do a deep dive into the interpretation. I would analyse the cards a bit more deeply, look at the images on the cards and analyse the relationship between them.
As I was writing down an interpretation of the cards, I became very familiar with the meanings of each card quickly!
It also helped that I had all the meanings of the cards laid out for me at the beginning of my journal. This assisted me in doing quick interpretations of each card.
